digitizing LPs & tapes

by david.galvin@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Oct 30, 2006 at 07:54 PM

I have a large collection of LPs and tapes that I would like to convert
to a non-lossy digital format.

1. is .wav the best non-lossy digital format?

2. what are the ideal audio components, computer and software (assuming
money is no object).

3. same as above, but willing to make compromises on quality (because
money is an object)

Ideally I'd be able to digitize LPs and tapes at archival quality with
the minimum 'fiddling' to get the sound right.

Also, it would be great if the software could take two flawed
recordings (say records with pops in different places), and combine
them to get one recording which eliminates the pops.
