Help with dead ****amichi AV-2

by paulfuchs@[EMAIL PROTECTED] 'tkosher.oink (Paul Fuchs) Nov 3, 2006 at 07:00 AM

I bought a ****amichi AV-2 in mint condition on ebay about two years ago
and have been very happy with it. I never had an ounce of trouble with
it. I went away for six weeks on a trip (and unplugged it). When I
came back, it would not turn on. Pu****ng the power button either
resulted in a toggle sequence of no lights or the little standby light
going on. After a couple of hours of messing around, the power did come
on. I played a CD and it sounded fine, but the machine shut itself off
after about five minutes. Since then – nada.

I am far from an electronics tech, but I do know a few basic things. I
put the machine on the bench, took off the cover, and looked for fuses.
I found three bus fuses; an 8 amp near the power supply and two side by
side on the bottom toward the front. All three checked out fine for
continuity. I did notice that when I pulled out the 8 amp power supply
fuse, the stand by light could go on anyway. I do have the proper
voltage going into the power supply. I am suspicious that the PS is
dead.

So, I am asking for help with the following questions:

1) Is this a problem that any ****amichi buff would know how to deal
with immediately?

2) Do you think it is a dead power supply?

3) If yes to #2, where could I get a replacement at a reasonable price?

I live on the island of St. John, US Virgin Islands, and have limited
community resources available to me, but we are services by the US
Postal Service intermittently J

Thanks in advance for any help.

Paul ****hs
