How can something be good and yet "a huge step down" at the same time?
TEoAC and DD sound like Alice doing what Alice does best. BP (and to a
lesser extent Dragontown) sound like Alice trying to be something else.
Something that's beyond him at this point IMO.....it ain't 1988 anymore.
... Why would the "heavier" music be "beyond" him? Those albums do not
sound like metal from the late 80's. They are up to par with most
current metal bands. I think the switch to "metal" once in a while fits
Alice and his image. That's what is great about AC. The ability to
change. He would not imo, still be around if every album sounded like
DD.
The dirty rock n roll garage thing is not picking up new listeners,
which though isin't life or death at this point in his career, but
concerns me a little on keeping his name sake going well after he's
retired. Today's youth are not intersted in old style rock n roll, very
sad, but very true. They will buy BP but they look right past School's
Out.
Try talking with a kid from 15 to about 24, and talk to them about the
Stones, Aerosmith, or any just plain ole rock n roll outside of metal,
they are not interested. I'm not suggesting that AC go back to the BP
sound, though it wouldn't bother me, but that album truly is absolutely
fantastic, and I see why so many people young and old like it. Well
written, some of the best guitar work EVER on an AC album and Alice's
vocals are right on.
It fits his whole concept of "Brutal Planet" to begin with. I have a 16
yr old daughter and a 15 yr old son. They love AC, but you can guess
which cd's they pick out when I tell them to toss some AC on? They pick
the following and never the others (though they have heard them all)
*Brutal Planet
*Raise Your Fist & Yell
*Welcome To My Nightmare (yes, they really love black widow, awakening)
*Constrictor
*Special Forces
*Dragontown
*Killer
*Zipper Catches Skin
*Billion Dollar Babies
and occasionally Flush The Fa****on
.. All of these are either his heavist work, or his most bizarre. That's
what a LOT if not all of AC's younger fans want, it's that simple. I'm
sure when my kids get older they'll appreciate Muscle of Love, and
Pretties For You as I did when I got older & wiser. But I guess, if
there's a point, it would be there is nothing wrong with AC jumping in
the metal arena from time to time.
Speaking of your creativity I was wondering if you'd had come up with
anything as good as your classic work "She was only 16 but her life was
woa-ver"?

In my opinion, "CONSTRICTOR" is better than either of them, even though
it has weak points. The reason I say this is that there is nothing on
"EYES" or "DIAMONDS" that is even as REMOTELY good as "Give
it up". Now you gotta agree with this..- Hide quoted text -

YES AND I JUST REITERATED THAT WITH THIS POST.
That you obviously didn't even ready. Yes, they are GREAT albums, but I
like Constrictor better.
Actually I'm impressed that you're at least past the debacles that were
Flush The Fa****on and Zipper Catches Skin. Constrictor took an Alice
Cooper that was all but dead an buried and put him back on the map. For
that alone it is an im****tant record in his career.
TEOAC and DD are garage rock records, which are indeed extremely good
recordings that while not capturing the glory years of the ACG,
certainly pay homage, in a rather nice fa****on.
Who woke you up BTW????- Hide quoted text -

My life has gone through some very serious changes in the last few
months (you wouldn't even belive it), sorry I haven't had the time to
post. If you're interested I'll talk about it privately but not here. I
feel like I am more awake than every before now, BTW - either that or I
am seriously asleep. Sometimes I don't know what to think anymore. I'm
still doing music, I have lots of new songs and I have met someone who
is also a musican who has inspired me to be more creative than I have
ever been beofre.
Ummmmm.. agreed about Constrictor, in no small part due to the Friday
the 13th plug........ Um... I remember when CONSTRICTOR first came out,
I was listening to the *** Pistols and Black Flag, and I was over at my
friends house and he brought Constrictor over and I remember my
impression of it (not musically, I don't think we listened to it, but
just the album art, etc), was that it was a shallow album, like Unmasked
or something. I remember thinking "WHY doesn't this guy just HANG IT UP
already?????" (you know.. the punk rock "dethrone" the dinosaurs
thing...)
Then I saw the MTV special in 1985 on Halloween, and remember
thinking... yawn.. tired act, a trite attempt at making a comeback,
etc..
Then in 1994, I found PRINCE OF DARKNESS on CD for like $1.99, so I
bought it and was BLOWN AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I of course got
Constrictor and realized then how great it was, as well as EVERY OTHER
Alice Cooper CD... I got them all, driving all over to track them down.
Then THE LAST TEMPTATION was released, and it was a huge disappointment.
This album was nowhere NEAR the quality of Constrictor or RYFAY.
Then I didn't listen to Alice for a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time until I heard
some people on the Kiss NG talking about "Brutal Planet" and
"Dragontown"???? WTF was this? Alice trying to come back... AGAIN?? I
thought he hung it up in 94???
So....... I got Brutal Planet and it just BLEW ME THE **** AWAY. Wow,
what a great, great record. Dragontown I liked too.
IMO, "EYES" and "DIAMONDS", while good, were a HUGE step down from
Brutal Planet. Alice should move foreward, but he moved back instead.
Too bad. It's all good though, I have made peace with ALL THINGS
ALICE!!!
