Holy ****! What happened to this group? I figured with the new
incarnation
of Alice now on the road there would be some substantial buzz.. Oh Well..
I'm going to post anyway just to get this off my chest.
I was fortunately enough to see Alice in Chains early on and Jerry
Cantrell
solo on a couple of occasions, once as an opening act for Metallica which
was
smokin'. They did a rendition of Pink Floyds... Damnit I can't remember
the
name of the song.. Had a long female vocal solo, no words just vocal
notes.
Anyway It was stunning!! He had a feller from Screaming Trees who did the
vocal solo.. It really was stunning.
Then We caught him at a club in Seattle with Mike Inez, Sean Kinney and
Vince
DeGarmo. Another magnificent show. They rocked so hard I had to scrape
my
balls off the floor after it was over.
I'm a musician myself and I've been travelling and playing for over 30
years
now. I never have crossed paths with Cantrell. However he does have a
reputation as a good guy and serious musician so I was surprised at his
reaction to being hit by a sandle at a recent show. Dropped his guitar
and
walked of and never came back. I certainly understand the sentiment.
I've
been hit by a half full beer bottle, spit, cigarette butts, and other odds
and ends (not one pair of panties though) and it pisses me off beyond
description, but I never lose sight of the fact that there is a room full
of
people who paid good money and took the time and effort to be there to
hear
us perform. If it weren't for those people I'd be running a screwdriver
on a
production line or digging post holes or something. Thanks to them I'm
able
to make a living and a damn good one doing what I love more than anything
else. So when I get pegged or spat on I may take a minute to regroup but
I
will always go on and give the people what they paid for... I may stop
and
give a little speach about respect or something and if I'm aware of who
the
culprit is I will point him out to the crowd around him which has led to
satisfactory results on several occasions, but if I can draw breath, I'll
finish the show.
I hope Jerry was just having a really bad night..
Okay then.
I Can't wait to see Alice and Chains with DuVall.
