ABC Classic FM in Australia has just completed the countdown of its
listeners' 100 favourite piano works. The five most popular pieces were
revealed last night when they were performed in concert by Geoffrey Tozer
and broadcast live.
Listeners were invited to nominate one piece for piano that they can't
live
without. With 20 pieces selected, Chopin appears far more than any other
composer, but he is not among the top ten. Beethoven, Liszt and Schubert
were the most popular of the other composers. These are the Beethoven
pieces
and their positions:
1. Moonlight Sonata (No.14 in C-sharp minor Op.27/2)
5. Pathétique Sonata (No.8 in C minor Op.13)
10. Appassionata Sonata (No.23 in F minor Op.57)
12. Waldstein Sonata (No.21 in C major Op.53)
15. Für Elise
26. Sonata No.32 in C minor Op. 111
39. Hammerklavier Sonata (No.29 in B-flat Op.106)
