someone played a band that is similar to b+s, i don't know the name, please help

hey guys and gals.  
i knew this girl, she played this band, she called them a "gayer belle
and sebastian" and while i know this is offensive description, its the
only one i have.  I loved the music and i am just trying to hear names
of bands and try to figure out what i was listening to.  any ideas on
bands that are similiar to belle and sebastian?  please help if you
can.
