Hi,
A couple of weeks ago I heard a song I had heard before by a Woody
Herman early band, only this time, it sounded an awful lot like Jimmy
Ru****ng -yes there was a vocal- and maybe it was him.
Did Ru****ng do "Exactly Like You"? Was that done with Basie?
Pretty melodic, as Ru****ng goes, if that was him.
What CD collection would you recommend for me to find it on?
Does anyone also have any recording date, release date or chart year
information on it as well?
Also, I have a track by Count Basie doing "Cheek To Cheek" on an
im****t CD collection with no information on it. 97% of the rendition
is heavenly, except for trombone solo, with a depleted washed out
performance or sound compared to the rest of the track. Maybe it
wasn't miked to well in studio, but I can't believe they gave up
trying to record this number after one flawed take like this, with one
not-ready-for prime time player, and/or a poor arranging idea.
Does anyone have any recording information on that one too (label,
recording date or release date, etc.)
I am in a younger generation - the Baby Boomers, who came up long
after the great age of this music had passed, but I love so much of
the Swing Era - novelties and sweet bands largely aside.
Much obliged if anyone can help.
