Not really 100% blues by any means, but that's certainly my roots and
sensibilities.
It's pretty difficult for me to be objective about my own stuff, but
I'm pretty happy with these initial results, especially after thirty
years of only s****adic playing. First attempt at writing keyboard or
bass parts -- trying hard not to sound like a guitarist playing bass,
or a guitarist playing keys or a guitarist playing drums . . .
Also my first attempt at doing anything this extensive with Cakewalk
in particular, or recording in general. I've tried to resist the urge
to overprocess everything (especially my mediocre vocals), but could
probably benefit from even more restraint in that area.
Finally, it's my first try at actually composing my guitar parts,
rather than just noodling around and improvising over changes, and I'm
really quite pleased with the results.
Just me playing with myself in my room at this point, but next step is
to try and hook up with some local folks to actually perform some of
this stuff.
I mostly just love the material, though--all baggage I've been carting
around over the years, always saying: "some day I'm going to PLAY
this..."
Haven't a clue about the ramifications of recording other people's
music -- guess I'll have to look into it. There are only a couple of
originals, though some of them are definitely old enough to be in the
public domain (1912, 1918 . . .).
Well, (hopefully) enjoy.
