Beck, Bogert, & Appice
Black Oak Arkansas
Wet Willie
I remember even less than usual about this show; that may say something
about the quality of it.
I don't remember Wet Willie's set at all. I think they were one in the
sudden mini-flood of Southern rock bands, in the wake of the huge
popularity
of the Allmans.
As was Black Oak, although they had a bit more of a hard rock edge. They
also had the most ridiculous lead singer ever (with the exception of the
guy
in Slade, and maybe now the Tesla dude), Jim Dandy Mangrum. What a clown
that guy was. This was the second time I'd suffer through them in order to
hear the headliner. Total garbage.
Footnote: I remember my friend had an early album of theirs. Inside each
album, they included a deed for owner****p, to the buyer of the record, of
*one square inch* of land in the town of Black Oak, Arkansas. I wonder if
those are binding? What with the price of real estate nowadays, those
could
be worth a few dollahs! Then again, it's still Arkansas ...
Beck, Bogert, & Appice was the latest "supergroup", with Beck teaming up
with former members of Cactus in a power trio format. This set was every
bit
as disappointing and unmemorable as their album turned out to be. They
simply didn't have any good songs.
