I think Bill started this, and seeing as how I was unable to figure
out how to respond to his post, I started a new one. Here's what I
definitely know about his gear: First, Xan wasn't playing on Fa****on
Nugget, that was umm...Greg Brown I believe, but their tone is very
very similar. I saw them twice in Austin a couple of years ago and
Xan was playing some sort of Guild hollow-body, single cutaway I
think, through what looked like a 4x10 tweed Bassman. That's really
all I could tell from seeing him. But I'd imagine he's gotta have a
pedal in there somewhere. I don't think Bassman's put out that kind
of tone on their own. Maybe some sort of overdrive or something like
a Tubescreamer, but I don't know. I wish someone would find out
because I really like that sound, too. If anyone finds something, let
all of us know.
