That was a damn good read, Craig! Awesome, indeed -- very detailed and
thorough. I felt like I was there with you throughout the whole day.
Of course, I may have for part of it, at the Roxy. I remeber McCrea's
mild
tirade at the picture taking. Not a big deal, imo.
He's got some good stage banter -- doesn't over do it.
That Tower merchandise guy...
I was in the sam position. I had pre-ordered the new CD through
sonymusic.com,
but the CD (nor the bonus disc) had arrived. So, me and my friend Chris
(he's
a tall drink of water--about 6'5" , thin, and with dark hair -- maybe you
noticed him) bought another one at the merchandise table.
I had noticed that he had a Cake poster rolled up in a box behind him. I
asked
him for it and he said he couldn't at the moment, but maybe after the
show,
when he finds out if it's ok (from whomever) if he can give out.
I saw some other dude walking around with a poster, so I freaked and went
back
to check with him and told him that I saw another guy walking around with
a
poster. But I noticed the other one still rolled up. So, I was relieved
and,
with a little more prodding and apologizing that i wasn't some hot girl
making
this request, he finally gave in and told me not to tell anyone where i
got the
poster from.
Sure enough, as soon as i walk away, I walk pass a group of 4 people,
where in
which one girl asks me where i got the poster from. Without having a
chance to
answer, she guessed that i took it down from the lobby or some other part
of
the venue. I smiled, shrugged, and walked away.
A bit later, and before the show started, my girlfriend finally made it.
Her
battery died and she had to get it jumped. But, everything worked out
well. I
felt bad that she didn't have a wristband, so i made another trip to Mr.
Tower
Merchandiser Guy, and after a couple of minutes of persuasive speaking, he
gave
her one without either of us having to buy another CD. (I told him i
pre-ordered one too, and that we "live together", even though we didn't,
and
that seem to have mattered to him a great deal, like "oh, in that case,
since
you share the CDs, it's cool. i'll give you another one." Sweet! He was
a
cool guy, indeed.).
Well, to make a long story short, I got my CD signed, and I had Tina--my
girlfriend--take my poster to get signed. I watched as John McCrea and
two of
the other guys over-compliment, borderline-flirt with my girlfriend. But
as
far as I was concerned, I was flattered by it. And John was cool in the
brief
chat we had. (He also complinted my friend Chris's jacket.)
It was an awesome show, to say the least. I was one of the guys in the
back
screaming for these songs, at different times:
Comfort Eagle
Comanche
Let Me Go
Walk on By
and
Where Would I Be
I bought tickets for the Universal Ampitheater show. Let me know if you

on going.
