The Red Masque, formed in 2001, have an EP, a single, and two
full-length albums to their credit. Their latest release, Feathers for
Flesh (2004 Big Balloon Music), is being lauded internationally as a
dark and theatrical masterpiece by critics (see full list of reviews at
http://www.theredmasque.com/fffreview.html),
and their performances as
"incendiary". Though the band is currently working on new material for
a forthcoming album, they will be performing at select concerts this
summer and fall, including Georgia's Rogue Independent Music Festival
(http://www.roguemusicfest.com)
on June 18-19th. According to the
Philadelphia City Paper's A.D. Amarosi, "In the Nu-progressive rock
underground, few bands are as respected and feared as Philadelphia's
The Red Masque. Without irony or kitsch, the whirlwind that is Masque -
on the new Feathers for Flesh (Big Balloon) -- stalks the darkness of
Hammer Horror ambience and cursedly complex musician****p (think Gong
meets Bauhaus) with only feedbacking noise, sound-collage clustering
and the howl of vocalist Lynnette Shelley to light its way." (See
www.bigballoonmusic.com for album info).
The Red Masque is:
Kiarash Emami: electric and acoustic guitars, mandolin, keyboards;
Brandon Ross: bass guitar, acoustic guitar, keyboards;
Lynnette Shelley: vocals, lyrics, sound effects & percussion;
Vonorn: drums & percussion, flutes, Celtic harp, keyboards, guitar,
bass, theremin

PS look for an upcoming interview with The Red Masque in the next issue
of Progression Magazine (end of summer? 2005). An interview will also
be in Philadelphia's Metro Newspaper on JULY 7. And there just might be
an interview in Expose Magazine sometime this year as well :)
