I haven't had access to the interweb at home for ages now, just got sorted
out today, so here's a few random thoughts on the manics. have briefly
skimmed all the posts here, but not really read them properly.
Lifeblood: finally got this for Christmas. the first time i haven't gone
out and bought a manics album on the day of release -i just couldn't
really
be arsed as i thought it would be pretty boring. big surprise is, its
actually pretty damn good. and contrary to what i've heard, it didn't
take
me a few listens to get into, 1985 started up and i though 'hellooo, this
sounds intyeresting'. there are some boring moments on there, but all in
all i was pretty impressed. they're sounding more like new order every
day,
which can only be a good thing, i reckon. def the kind of music a bunch
of
older men should be making -i respect them far more for this album than
the
last one.
THB rerelease: **** me this was cool. great packaging, the DVD is great,
brought back lots of memories of seeing them do faster of TOTP and Butt
****d, for example, and the glastonbury stuff. great remembering that
visceral thrill watching them rip into those new songs. also recalling
their first performance as a three piece, at T In The Park NOT reading! I
do wish that little fact didn't keep getting swalloed up by the myth and
legend - T In The Park obviously not being quite as cool or well known or
as
historically 'rawk' as reading, but that was the first 3 piece gig, a good
few weeks before reading. but anyway.
the US remix is tremendous. what it loses in that claustrophobic, '****
me
this is scary' just damn terrifying intensity, it gains in a real '****
you'
anger and loudness and intensity in a different way. very cool. both
mixes
have their good and bad points, but both are great. i do love the US
'yes'.
also like the live versions and sessions - again, the live 'yes' is bloody
cool.
so just generally, i've been having something of a manics rennaissance,
listening to the two albums again. all good stuff.
umm, that is all then. thanks for listening.
cheers,
lou
