Annie,
The footage I was referring to was from the movie I'm Not There.
However, this scene was a quasi-faithful reproduction of actual
footage from the 1966 tour, as seen in Eat the Do***ent, or more
accessibly, Scorcese's No Direction Home. (on a side note: I heartily
recommend sitting through Scorcese's do***entary a couple times before
seeing I'm Not There, so you're quick to appreciate the references)
Anybody else have comments on The Band's furtive appearances in I'm
Not There?
Factoid: I'm Not There is a previously unreleased (officially)
Basement Tapes track, which appears as the last song on the double-
disc movie soundtrack (which can be listened to on free.napster.com in
the States).
Also Annie, as a repository of information on The Band, I'm sure
you've run across Jan Hoiberg's excellent site (http://
theband.hiof.no). Hoskyns' book is good, as is Levon's. Just do as
much reading as possible. Get old Rolling Stones magazines (eBay),
read old interviews, etc. What a cool (on-going) story.

PSB,
That's undoubtedly what Manuel did. Maybe I saw that scene wrong or
there was a gross oversight in the footage. Have you seen the film to
confirm this?
