You are right...I have seen this first hand in the past. People act
like little teeny boppers when they see a star. I have found that
when you treat them like normal people, they are much more
understanding.
I met Alice Cooper in 1986 or 1987 at the Tower Theater and when he
came out to board the bus, there were a bunch of idiots that tried to
rush him. He was whisked into the bus and everyone was asked to
leave. My friend and I were standing across the street at the doors
of the Waterford Inn (local bar) watching all of this unfold. After
about 20 minutes, we walked over and knocked on the bus door. We
asked the driver if he could take our albums and get them signed for
us. He said: "Hold On" and went to the back of the bus. When he
returned, Alice was with him and he stepped off the bus and introduced
himself. My friend said: "I thought you did not want to be bothered"?
Alice replied: "I was just waiting for those fans to leave...they ruin
it for everyone". He signed all of our material, shook our hands and
then said goodbye before getting back on the bus.
It kind of reminds me of that young Zep fan in the movie "Almost
Famous".
