Re: The Earpiece Conspiracy...

The earpiece is the vocalists main source of own audio (voice), when
used he/she doesn't have to rely on the stage side-fills or monitors
for hearing their own vocals. As a result the audio on stage doesn't
have to be deafening anymore, even though it still is loud. The
earpiece also gives a lot more mobility to the vocalist as he/she will
always be able to hear themselves (when working properly) all around a
venue.

As a result, when and if the earpiece fails, there are very little
vocals in the stage mix and that may throw even the most experienced
off key (it's like singing along with headphones on ... haha).

Brian has been battling the earpieces since he started using them, it
seems like they malfunction every other show. First night Chicago on
the current tour was a a glorious debacle during Anything Goes, so out
of key it was painful. Worst I've sen was the two nights at Webley
Arena in 2000, Brian was so disturbed by the contraption that it
looked like he was about to quit.
