7. This week's top 50:
She only lasted one week at number one. Colbie Caillat's
"Bubbly" dives to number 4 this week now that the promos for
Aussie soap "Home & Away" have stopped using the song to
mark the departure of long-time actress Kate Ritchie from the
series. Taking over at number one is 16 year-old Gabriella Cilmi
whose debut single "Sweet About Me" climbs from number 3 to
one in its fourth charting week. Flo Rida is still at number 2
with "Low" and Chris Brown's "With You" continues its steady
climb, up from number 7 to 5 this week.
Apart from a debut at number 3, there are a further two singles
making their first appearance in the top 10 this week. After 13
charting weeks, Sydney band Faker finally crack the top 10
with "This Heart Attack" which now bullets from number 18 to 9.
And British musician Newton Faulkner who has enjoyed one of the
biggest moving hits each week for the last three weeks with
"Dream Catch Me" finally enters the top 10 this week at number 10.
There are 5 new entries into this week's top 50. Now record
companies really need to hurry up their release schedules for CD
singles because only one of those 5 new songs is available for
purchase at record shops right now.
3. 4 MINUTES - Madonna featuring Justin Timberlake
CD singles chart: (released 19th April 2008)
Digital track chart: #1
Up until now, Madonna had only ever officially appeared on one
duet or collaboration that was released as a single, and that
was back in late 2003 when she was the guest of Britney Spears
on her chart-topping hit "Me Against The Music". This time,
Madonna takes the lead and she enlists the services of both
Justin Timberlake and Timbaland for the first release from her
11th studio album, "Hard Candy". The energetic dance single
"4 Minutes" slightly exceeds (by a few seconds) its expected
length of 4 minutes for the album version, while the radio edit
is trimmed back to just over 3 minutes, with most of
Timbaland's vocals getting the chop. Maybe that's why he
doesn't get a title credit on the single. Anyway, "4 Minutes"
debuts at number 3 purely on digital sales, so we shall see
if combined CD single sales in the next couple of weeks is
enough to give her another chart-topper. The last time
Madonna hit number one was actually with the first single from
her last album, "Confessions on a Dance Floor". "Hung Up"
debuted at number one when first released in November 2005.
At 49 years of age, Madonna's longevity in the musical
world is quite remarkable. Her first album was released
25 years ago and yet she is still churning out huge hits that
are as relevant as ever to the music buyers of today.

23. PERFECT - Vanessa Amorosi
CD singles chart: (released 26th April 2008)
Digital track chart: #18
26 year-old Vanessa Amorosi enjoyed a string of huge hits from
her 4-times platinum selling debut album "The Power" between
1999 and 2001, but since then her level of success has
nose-dived with the subsequent releases of the albums "Turn To
Me" and "Change". Her fourth studio album, "Somewhere in the
Real World", was recorded in 2007 but plans to release it that
year seemed to have been put on hold once the album's first
single "Kiss Your Mama!" only managed to spend just one week
in the top 20 and only 7 weeks in the top 50. She should
hopefully have more luck with the album's second single,
"Perfect". It has been used in the promotion for the TV
series Bionic Woman and with Vanessa being the face of
Calvin Klein Jeans this year, her song will be used in
TV ads for those jeans. However, "Perfect" only manages
a number 23 debut this week, with the CD single not hitting
record stores until late this month.

42. THIS BOY'S IN LOVE - The Presets
CD singles chart: (not yet released)
Digital track chart: #36
Sydney-based electronic group, The Presets, enjoyed a recent
top 20 hit with the single "My People" which was lifted off
their "Apocalypso" album. They are now sounding a bit like
Depeche Mode on their latest single, "This Boy's In Love",
which debuts at number 42 this week.

48. S.O.S. - Jonas Brothers
CD singles chart: (not yet released)
Digital track chart: (not in top 40)
American pop rock band, The Jonas Brothers, are made up
of three teenage brothers - Joe, Nick and Kevin. Their second
studio album, which is self-titled, was released earlier this
year in Australia and features the single "SOS" which debuts
at number 48 this week. In the US, this single made the top
20 late last year.

50. READY TO FLY - Amy Pearson
CD singles chart: #25
Digital track chart: (not in top 40)
Now 22, singer and song-writer Amy Pearson moved to Australia
from the UK when she was 17 as part of a record deal. Her
debut album is out later this month and she's already had
chart success with singles from the album including "Don't
Miss You" (number 19, July 2007) and "Not Me" (number 37,
November 2007). Now the third single from her album is
titled "Ready To Fly" and it is this week's final new
entry at number 50. The song has been chosen as the theme
song for Channel 7's coverage of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing
later this year and the song's music video was actually
shot in Beijing. With the Olympic Games well over 3 months
away, we may see this song hanging around the charts for
quite a few months.
