7. This week's top 50:
Flo Rida's "Low" manages to out-live two former number one singles.
Back at the end of March, in Flo Rida's 8th charting week, his
single "Low" finally climbed to number one where it stayed for
2 weeks. Then for the following 2 weeks, it moved back down to
number 2, allowing not one, but two singles to enjoy one week
stints at the top. Colbie Caillat's "Bubbly" spent one solitary
week at the top, followed by Gabriella Cilmi's "Sweet About Me"
which did the same last week. Now this week, Flo Rida once again
takes over at number one.
Former number one singles returning to the top spot are not
uncommon. In fact, it's already happened twice this year with
Leona Lewis and Rihanna both fighting for the number one spot and
reclaiming the top position once each from each other. 2007
saw Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls" and Avril Lavigne's
"Girlfriend" both reclaim the top spot, and we have to go all the
way back to 2001 to find a year in which such a feat did not
occur.
On the digital track chart, Madonna's "4 Minutes" is actually
this week's biggest seller, however with CD single sales about
to kick in, we may finally see that single outsell all others
on all charts in coming weeks.
Meanwhile, apart from Flo Rida taking over from Gabriella Cilmi
at number one, the rest of this week's top 6 remains unchanged
from last week. The only significant action elsewhere in the top
10 is Newton Faulkner's continuing steady rise as "Dream Catch Me"
moves up from number 10 to 8. The Last Goodnight re-enter the
top 10 with "Pictures Of You", while Faker's top 10 stint
appears to be short-lived as "This Heart Attack" drops back
to number 12 this week.
It's actually quite an unusual chart this week in that as well
as being no big climbers within the top 50, there are also no
big fallers, resulting in a chart of small movements only.
Even this week's four new entries don't manage to chart that
highly to begin with, even though 3 out of those 4 new hits
are available both as CD singles and digital tracks, thus
maximising their sales exposure.
14. THIS LOVE - The Veronicas
CD singles chart: #12
Digital track chart: #17
The Brisbane twins, The Veronicas, lift a third single from
their double-platinum selling "Hook Me Up" album. "This Love"
debuts at number 14 and the music video features one of the
twins, Lisa Origliasso, with her real-time boyfriend, singer
and Neighbours soapie star Dean Geyer. Despite lots of radio
airplay, the debut of "This Love" is quite disappointing
given that their last two singles, "Hook Me Up" and "Untouched"
reached the number 1 and 2 positions respectively.

32. BETTER IN TIME - Leona Lewis
CD singles chart: #47
Digital track chart: #39
Leona Lewis appears to have conquered the world. As the winner
of the British "X Factor" talent series in 2006, the now 23
year-old enjoyed a chart-topping single in the UK and Ireland
with her first single, "A Moment Like This" which was a cover
of Kelly Clarkson's 2002 hit. "A Moment Like This" sold over
800,000 copies in the UK, however, the rest of the world at
that stage was virtually unaware of her. In late 2007,
almost a year after she won the X Factor series, she released
a new single titled "Bleeding Love". This was a true
international hit, firstly becoming the highest selling single
in 2007 in the UK and then topping the charts throughout much
of the rest of Europe, the US, Canada, New Zealand and here
in Australia where it spent 5 weeks at number one. Leona's
debut album, "Spirit", was also a huge success, debuting at
number one on the Australian albums chart back in February
and going to number one in the UK, US, New Zealand and much
of Europe. However, whether she can continue her fairy tale
chart success story is another matter. Her latest single,
"Better In Time", has been a good hit in the UK, peaking at
number 2, but it flounders on international charts, debuting
at just number 32 here in Australia and not reaching the
top 50 yet in the US.

49. I DON'T THINK SO - Kelis
CD singles chart: (not released yet)
Digital track chart: (not in top 40)
28 year-old American R&B singer and songwriter, Kelis Rogers,
has enjoyed an active music career since 1999. However, her
big break-through in Australia came in 2004 with the release
of her "Tasty" album. While the album itself wasn't a huge
seller, she enjoyed two top 5 hit singles off it - "Milkshake"
and "Trick Me". Between 2003 and 2006, she also enjoyed
moderate hits thanks to guest appearances on P. Diddy's "Let's
Get Ill", Enrique Iglesias' "I'm Not In Love" and Busta Rhymes
with "I Love My Chick". 2006 saw the release of her "Kelis Was
Here" album. The album's first single, "Bossy", only just
managed to make the top 20. The follow-up single, "Lil' Star",
which featured Gnarls Barkley member Cee-Lo, failed to make
the top 50. This week, new life is breathed into the
"Kelis Was Here" album as the track "I Don't Think So" has
been used to promote this year's Big Brother series. As such,
the digital album track "I Don't Think So" debuts at number 49
this week.

50. PSYCHO TEDDY - Psycho Teddy
CD singles chart: #16
Digital track chart: (not in top 40)
We had Crazy Frog and Gummi Bear, and this week the phenomenon
of a fictional animated character having a hit single thanks to
a mobile phone ringtone continues this week. German
telecommunications company Jamster was behind the Crazy Frog
and Gummi Bear ideas, but now an Australian-made creation
attempts to have a crack at success. The "Psycho Teddy"
CD single features remixes, the music video, wallpapers and
bonus ringtones, all for under two dollars. It debuts at
number 50 this week, propelled by healthy CD single sales.
