7. This week's top 50:
A rather quiet week at the upper end of this week's chart.
Gabriella Cilmi clocks up a third non-consecutive week at number
one with "Sweet About Me", while her "Lessons Learned" album
has now climbed to number 2 on this week's albums chart. The
number 2 and 3 songs from last week, both of which were former
chart-toppers for Madonna and Flo Rida, remain unchanged this
week. Meanwhile, Estelle's comeback to the charts with help
from Kanye West is just getting bigger and bigger as each week
goes by. "American Boy" has now climbed to number 4, getting close
to emulating the chart-topping success this single recently had
in the UK. And Vanessa Amorosi's breakthrough hit, "Perfect",
which last week signalled her return to the top 10 after an
absence of over 7 years, keeps improving with age, climbing to
number 7 this week.
Entering the top 10 this week for the first time is the
Jordin Sparks duet with Chris Brown. "No Air" debuted at
number 16 last week but held back by minimal CD single sales
due to some retailers selling before the official release date.
With "No Air" fully on sale, the single leaps straight to number
3 on the CD singles chart and to number 6 on the official chart.
Also new into the top 10 is Rihanna's latest offering, "Take A
Bow". It climbs from number 13 to 10 aided by its release
into record stores in time for this week's chart. It now becomes
Rihanna's 8th top 10 hit in just 2 and a half years.
Leaving this week's top 10 is Colbie Caillat's former chart-topping
"Bubbly" which plummets from number 6 to 11. And the Veronicas
only lasted a week in the top 10 before "This Love" dropped out,
slipping to number 12 this week.
Three new entries into this week's top 50. There is also a
re-entry by Pete Murray with his hit from earlier this
month titled "You Pick Me Up", which returns to its peak
at number 47. This co-incides with his number one debut
on the albums chart with his fourth album, "Summer At Eureka".
28. IF I NEVER SEE YOUR FACE AGAIN - Maroon 5 featuring Rihanna
CD singles chart: (not released yet)
Digital track chart: #25
American band Maroon 5 have enjoyed platinum success with
their second album "It Won't Be Soon Before Long". It
spawned 3 top 20 hit singles including the number 6
track "Makes Me Wonder". The album is scheduled for
re-release in July with three bonus tracks added to
the main CD. There is an acoustic version of "Won't
Go Home Without You", a remix of "Wake Up Call" featuring
Mary J Blige and a re-recording of "If I Never See Your Face
Again" featuring guest vocals by Rihanna. The re-recorded
track with Rihanna is now released as a single, debuting
at number 28 this week. This song will also appear on
Rihanna's re-issued "Good Girl Gone Bad" album, thus
continuing the trend of trying to get fans to buy another
almost identical copy of something they already own. Luckily
the advent of digital music sales ensures that fans can pick
and choose which tracks to buy off an album, which may thus
sabotage record company efforts to cash in on repackaged
albums.

37. WE MADE IT - Busta Rhymes featuring Linkin Park
CD singles chart: (not released yet)
Digital track chart: #32
36 year-old American hip hop artist, Busta Rhymes, will
shortly release his 8th studio album titled "Blessed".
The album features production contributions from P Diddy,
Timbaland, Pharrell Williams and Linkin Park plus vocal
contributions by Jamie Foxx, Kanya West, Mary J Blige,
Akon, T-Pain and Lil Wayne. The album's first single is
a joint effort with Linkin Park on "We Made It" which
debuts at number 37 this week. Busta Rhymes' biggest
hit was thanks to his guest role on the 7 week number one
hit, "Don't Cha", by the *****cat Dolls in late 2005.
In terms of his own hits, his biggest yet was the track
"I Know What You Want" which reached number 3 in June 2003
and marked the phenomenal rebirth of the musical career of
Mariah Carey thanks to her guest vocals on that
internationally hugely successful track.

43. BLACK AND GOLD - Sam Sparro
CD singles chart: #32
Digital track chart: (not in top 40)
This week's final new entry comes from 25 year-old producer,
songwriter and performer, Sam Sparro. Born in Sydney, he
moved to Los Angeles with his family at a very young age.
With a family history of music spanning generations before
him, it was not surprising he followed suit. Moving between
Los Angeles and London, he wrote his first song, "Black And
Gold", which recently peaked at number 2 in the UK. Here
in Australia, "Black And Gold" debuts at number 43.
