7. This week's top 50:

Before looking at what's happening on this week's chart, we need
to backtrack last week to clear up an error that occured. The
single "Party People" by Nelly and Fergie was one of the week's
biggest fallers, plumetting from number 21 to 31 on the combined
digital and CD singles chart. But this made little sense since
the single debuted at number 9 on the CD singles chart that week
and maintained a respectable number 19 position on the digital
chart. It's hard to imagine a situation where No.19 digital sales
plus No.9 CD single sales could possibly result in an overall
number 31 ranking on the combined singles chart.

As it turned it, this was indeed an error, and ARIA initially
published last week's chart with a significant slice of sales
of "Party People" missing, possibly all the CD single copies
which sold quite well. The chart was re-issued mid-week and
"Party People" in fact climbed from number 21 to 15 rather than
diving from number 21 to 31. A side effect of the chart being
re-issued is that last week's original bunch of number 15 to 30
singles lost one spot in the re-issued chart, including two
debuts - Flo Rida's "Elevator" (number 19 instead of 18) and
Fergie's "Labels Or Love" (number 29 instead of 28).

This week, "Party People" climbs one spot up to number 14
despite slipping to number 10 on the CD singles chart and
number 21 on the digital track chart.

Now onto this week's chart, and we have a brand new number one.
After 5 non-consecutive weeks at number one, Gabriella Cilmi's
"Sweet About Me" drops to number 2, replaced by last week's
number 2 hit, "No Air", by Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown.
Interestingly enough, the last solo single by each of those
artists was a recent top 5 hit. Jordin's "Tattoo" peaked at
number 5 in late March while Chris Brown's "With You" also peaked
at number 5, but a few weeks later in mid-April.

The come-back of Vanessa Amorosi gets sweeter week by week
as "Perfect" now climbs to number 4, thus matching the peak
of her highest charting single to date, the ballad "****ne"
   from mid-2000.

And to wrap up the top 10, Coldplay's "Violet Hill" continues
its steady climb upwards, moving up from 17 and into the top 10
at number 10 this week. Meanwhile, we farewell Usher's hit "Love
In This Club" which re-entered the top 10 last week only to drop
out yet again this week. Usher has also lost the number one spot
on the albums chart as "Here I Stand" tumbles to number 3.

Five new entries into this week's top 50, but with the days of
high debuting hits galore well behind us, it's no surprise none
of those 5 hits can even penetrate the top 20.

   25. SEE YOU AGAIN - Miley Cyrus
       CD singles chart: #23
       Digital track chart: #20

15 year-old American actress and singer Miley Cyrus found
instant fame thanks to her role in the Disney Channel series
"Hannah Montana". In the series, Miley Cyrus plays the part
of a fictional character that leads two lives - ordinary
teenager Miley Stewart by day and successful singer Hannah
Montana at night - with few people knowing about her dual
identity. The series has spawned a number of soundtrack
albums including "Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus"
which is currently a certified gold seller here in Australia.
That album features 2 CDs - the first containing songs by the
character she plays, Hannah Montana, while the second CD
consists of her own material as singer Miley Cyrus. From
the "real" part of her album comes the song "See You Again"
which was released as a single and went top 10 in the U.S.
and Canada. Here in Australia, "See You Again" debuts at
       number 25.

You may be wondering whether Miley's surname of Cyrus means
that she's somehow related to country singer Billy Ray Cyrus
who enjoyed a once-off commercial hit with the 7 week chart
topping "Achy Breaky Heart" in 1992. In fact, Miley is his
daughter and Billy happens to play a role in the "Hannah
Montana" Disney Channel series as well.

   28. WHERE THE CITY MEETS THE SEA - The Getaway Plan
       CD singles chart: #11
Digital track chart: (not in top 40)

Melbourne 4-piece rock group, The Getaway Plan, were formed
in 2004. They have enjoyed extensive exposure thanks to
national tours with other rock groups including The Used,
Kisschasy and My Chemical Romance. In 2006, their debut EP
"Hold Conversation" was released, while their first album,
"Other Voices Other Rooms" went on sale in February 2008,
debuting at number 14 on the Australian albums chart. That
album's first single, "Streetlight", didn't make the top 50,
but their second release fares significantly better. "Where
The City Meets The Sea" debuts at number 28 this week.

   31. ARE YOU WITH ME - The Potbelleez
       CD singles chart: #26
Digital track chart: (not in top 40)

The Potbelleez is an Australian-based electro group consisting
of Irish-born DJs Dave Goode and Jonny Sonic, plus vocalists
MC Blu and Ilan Kidron. They currently have the oldest chart
hit in this week's top 50 with "Don't Hold Back" which spends
its 34th week in the chart after peaking at number 5 back
in February. The group's next single, "Are You With Me",
debuts at number 31 this week.

   45. WHEN I GROW UP - The *****cat Dolls
CD singles chart: (not released yet)
Digital track chart: (not in top 40)

Originally formed as a dance troupe, American all-girl group
The *****cat Dolls were transformed into a pop/R&B recording
act. Nicole Scherzinger became the group's lead singer when
the group launched their musical career in 2003 as a 6-piece
act and in 2005 they released their debut album, "PCD". The
album was a huge international hit and sold triple platinum
here in Australia. From that album came what seemed like a
never ending succession of hit singles including the 7 week
chart-topping "Don't Cha" featuring Busta Rhymes, the top 3
hits "Stickwitu", "Beep" and "Buttons", the top 10 smash
"I Don't Need A Man" and the top 20 hit with Timbaland,
"Wait A Minute". Lead singer Nicole Scherzinger dabbled in
collaborations with other artists outside of the group and
she enjoyed a number 11 hit with P. Diddy in 2006 on his
track "Come To Me" while also featuring on Timbaland's recent
top 20 hit, "Scream". Nicole also recorded a solo album,
"Her Name Is Nicole", but it is unknown when the album will
be released given that two solo singles she released from
that album where poorly received in the US. In March of this
year, member Carmit Bachar left the group, and The *****cat
Dolls continued on as a 5-piece outfit. The group's second
album "Doll Domination" is out later in the year, and the
album's first single, "When I Grow Up", debuts at number 45
       this week.

   47. HOMECOMING - Kanye West featuring Chris Martin
CD singles chart: (released Saturday 14th June)
Digital track chart: (not in top 40)

Kanye West is currently enjoying a top 3 hit as a guest
vocalist on British artist Estelle's song "American Boy".
In terms of his solo career, his third studio album,
"Graduation", was certified a gold seller last year. The
first single released in Australia from that album was the
huge number 2 hit "Stronger" which spent a marathon 31 weeks
in the top 50 and went platinum. Next single "Good Life",
featuring T-Pain, didn't do anywhere near as well, peaking
at number 21, although it did clock up an impressive 17
week stint in the top 50. "Fla****ng Lights" was the next
single to be released, but it missed out on making the top
       50. Now this week, Kanye is on the verge of a bigger
hit. He has teamed up with Chris Martin (lead singer of
British group Coldplay) on the track "Homecoming" which
debuts at number 47 this week purely on digital sales.
