7. This week's top 50:
Third week in a row at number one for the Jordin Sparks and Chris
Brown duet "No Air" which also commands the number one spot on
both the CD singles and digital track chart.
Bulleting up to number 2 this week is Coldplay's latest single,
"Viva La Vida", which is lifted off their album of the same
name which is Australia's highest selling album for the second
week in a row. The "Viva La Vida" single is at number 2 purely
on digital sales only, and with still no word on whether a CD
single will be released, it is shaping up as Coldplay's second
top 10 hit in a row that you can't go into a record shop and
buy...unless you purchase the whole album. This may help to
explain why Coldplay's album sold around 5 times as many copies
this week as the album just below it on the chart at number 2.
Rihanna's "Take A Bow" reaches a new peak of number 3 this week,
and this is lifted off her re-released "Good Girl Gone Bad" album
which bullets from number 22 to 8 on the albums chart thanks to
the addition of 4 newly recorded tracks including "Take A Bow".
Another of the new offerings on the repackaged "Good Girl Gone Bad"
album is Rihanna's duet with Maroon 5 on "If I Never See Your
Face Again" which bullets to number 11 on this week's singles
chart, aided by that song's arrival in record shops on CD.
After an 11 week run in the top 2, Gabriella Cilmi's "Sweet About
Me" is finally on the way down, diving to number 6 this week.
Her next single, "Don't Wanna Go to Bed Now", is a more
rock inspired track and has a big job ahead of itself to come
close to matching the success of her debut single.
Bulleting from number 26 to 8 this week is the new single
from the now 5-piece *****cat Dolls titled "When I Grow Up".
It's charting just on digital sales at the moment, with the
actual CD single not hitting shops until Saturday 12th July.
This now becomes their 6th top 10 hit since they first stormed
the charts back in late 2005 with "Don't Cha".
Re-entering the top 10 this week is Vanessa Amorosi with "Perfect".
Immediately after peaking at number 4, the single made a shock dive
down to number 13 last week, but regains some ground this week
as it rebounds to number 10. There are some interesting goings on
with this song. While the single edit has dropped out of the
digital track chart, the longer album version with expanded lyrics
bullets up to number 20 on that chart this week. But what is even
more interesting is how "Perfect" is doing on the CD singles chart.
In music shops, "Perfect" is the second highest selling single this
week, outsold only by the massive Jordin Sparks and Chris brown
duet "No Air".
Three new entries into this week's top 50, and two of those are
plucked straight from the number 1 and 2 positions on this week's
American Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
13. I KISSED A GIRL - Katy Perry
CD singles chart: (released Saturday 12th July)
Digital track chart: #11
Katy Perry, born as Katheryn Hudson, is a 23 year-old singer
and song-writer from California. She grew up listening to
and singing gospel music in church and in 2001 released a
self-titled album of Christian gospel songs. Her musical
direction began to change, and she worked as a vocalist for
a mainstream production team. She eventually scored a record
deal in early 2007 and began recording her first mainsteam
album titled "One Of The Boys". Her first official single
is the track "I Kissed A Girl" with its attention-grabbing
lyrics, and it debuts at number 13 this week on digital
sales alone. In the US, "I Kissed A Girl" is the nation's
highest selling song this week, while the single has bulleted
to number 3 in New Zealand this week.

38. LOLLIPOP - Lil Wayne
CD singles chart: #18
Digital track chart: (not in top 40)
25 year-old American rapper Lil Wayne, born as Dwayne Carter,
has just released his 6th studio album "Tha Carter III" which
debuted at number 47 here in Australia last week and has gone
to number one in the US and Canada. The album's first single,
"Lollipop", recently peaked at number one in the US, down to
number 2 this week. Here in Australia, "Lollipop" debuts at
number 38 and marks Lil Wayne's first solo top 50 hit here,
however he's no stranger to the charts to Australia, having
featured on Destiny's Child's top 3 smash from 2005, "Soldier",
and on the current charting single by Wyclef Jean, "Sweetest
Girl".

43. INSIDE THE FIRE - Disturbed
CD singles chart: (not released yet)
Digital track chart: (not in top 40)
American rock group Disturbed score this week's final new
entry. Their 4th studio album, "Indestructible", debuted
at number one on the Australian albums chart when released
last month and this week the album's first single, "Inside
The Fire", comes in at number 43. This is the first ever
top 50 hit single for Disturbed in Australia, however they
enjoyed a gold-selling album with their last release,
"Ten Thousand Fists".
