7. This week's top 50:
Pink clocks up a 4th week at number one with "So What" and in doing
so, scores the longest running chart-topping hit of her career,
beating the 3 week peak of "Lady Marmalade" in which Pink was
joined by Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim and Mya.
This is now the 4th week in which no singles enter or leave the
top 10. Jason Mraz reaches a new peak of number 3 with "I'm Yours"
while Kings Of Leon also reach a new peak as "*** On Fire" moves
up one spot to number 4. The group's album "Only By The Night"
now clocks up a third week at the top of the albums chart with
platinum sales.
Kardinal Offishall's collaboration with Akon on "Dangerous"
now re-enters the top 50 after almost 3 months thanks to the
CD single version finally hitting record stores, with the number
19 debut on the CD singles chart translating to a leap back up
into the top 50 at number 42 on the combined chart.
So what happened to last week's 5 new hits? The biggest of those,
the Jessica Mauboy and Flo Rida collaboration "Running Back"
makes positive headway, inching up from number 13 to 11, purely
on digital sales for now. The former US chart-topping hit
"Whatever You Like" by T.I. enjoys a healthy leap from number
25 to 19, also on digital sales only. Also charting purely
on digital sales is Lady GaGa's "Poker Face", up from its
number 26 debut last week to number 23 this week. Unfortunately
Short Stack's "****mmy A Go Go" was unable to sustain its number
31 debut last week, dropping right out of the top 50 as the CD
single plummets from number 6 to 23 on that chart. And last
week's final new entry, the duet between Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas
titled "This Is Me" was also unable to sustain its top 50 chart
position, dropping right out this week.
Six new entries into the top 50 this week as we clock up a 7th week
in a row in which we have failed to have a top 10 debut.
16. WOMANIZER - Britney Spears
CD single: (released 1st November)
Digital track: #12
Music video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-23EToh43M
Song lyrics: www.tinyurl.com/britney-womanizer
Artist website: www.britneyspears.com
26 year-old Britney Spears has enjoyed strong public interest
but has recently been the subject of intense media scrutiny
due to her divorce, custody battle for her children, drug abuse
and driving offences. However, despite the lows in her
personal life, she has still managed to preserve huge success
in the music industry, having sold an estimated 83 million
records world-wide to date since her debut single "Baby One
More Time" almost 10 years ago.
Britney's 6th studio album is titled "Circus" and is scheduled
to be released before Christmas. The album's first single,
"Womanizer", has received huge public sup****t in the US,
bulleting straight to number one this week with sales of over
quarter of a million so far. Here in Australia, "Womanizer"
makes a much more modest debut at number 16, however CD single
buyers still have a long wait of several weeks before they can
purchase a copy. Britney has described "Womanizer" as a song
about guys cheating on girls, and it features a music video
which has shots of her completely ****d.
38. CAN'T SHAKE IT - Kate Miller-Heidke
CD single: #28
Digital track: (not in top 40)
Music video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lOvuGNtdZ8
Song lyrics: www.tinyurl.com/kmh-csi
Artist website: www.katemillerheidke.com
Second new entry into this week's top 50 comes from Brisbane's
Kate Miller-Heidke. Originally trained as an opera singer,
she pursued her popular music interests, joining a band then
going solo and independently releasing two EPs. She then was
signed to Sony-BMG and released her debut album "Little Eve"
in June 2007 which peaked at number 11. The album's first
single, the quirky "Words", reached the number 43 position.
Her second album, titled "Curiouser", is out shortly, and from
that album comes her new single "Can't Shake It", which debuts
at number 38 this week.
40. KIDS - MGMT
CD single: (not released yet)
Digital track: #36
Song lyrics: www.tinyurl.com/kids-mgmt
Artist website: www.whoismgmt.com
The American duo of MGMT are currently enjoying a huge hit
in Australia with "Electric Feel" which reached a new peak of
number 7 this week and can be found on their gold-selling top
10 album "Oracular Spectacular". The group's next single,
"Kids", has begun selling as a digital track, debuting at
number 40 this week.
45. I HATE THIS PART - The *****cat Dolls
CD single: (not released yet)
Digital track: #40
Music video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_oRPCfhhhU
Song lyrics: www.tinyurl.com/pcd-ihtp
Artist website: www.pcdmusic.com
American all-girl group The *****cat Dolls are enjoying huge
success with their second album "Doll Domination". It debuted
at number 4 when released a couple of weeks ago and is already
a certified gold seller, although it has some way to go in
order to replicate the success they had with their debut album
"PCD" which sold 3 times platinum and spawned an incredible
6 hit singles, 5 of which went top 10. However, they are on
the right track as the first single from "Doll Domination" was
"When I Grow Up", which recently spent 3 weeks at number 2.
Their next single, "Whatcha Think About That", featuring
Missy Elliott, was only released in the US and Canada, with
the rest of the world getting what is their third single
"I Hate This Part" instead. Unavailable on CD at the moment,
"I Hate This Part" debuts at number 45 on digital sales alone.
Don't write this song off based on its low debut as their
platinum-selling number 2 hit "When I Grow Up" also debuted
at number 45 back in June.
48. TAKE BACK THE CITY - Snow Patrol
CD single: (released 11th October)
Digital track: (not in top 40)
Music video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDGzB82bIZc
Song lyrics: www.tinyurl.com/snowpatrol-tbtc
Artist website: www.snowpatrol.com
British rock band Snow Patrol are known world-wide for their
huge hit from 2006, "Chasing Cars". Although it was only
released as a digital track in Australia and was thus, under
the chart rules of those days, inelligible to chart on the
official singles chart, it spent several weeks at number one
on the digital track chart. The song was lifted off the
group's chart-topping 4-times platinum selling "Eyes Open"
album. The group's contribution to the "Spiderman 3" movie
soundtrack was the song "Signal Fire" which which peaked
at number 22 in the middle of last year. Snow Patrol's
new album, "A Hundred Million Suns", is out shortly and
the album's first single, "Take Back The City", debuts at
number 48.
50. FORGIVE ME - Leona Lewis
CD single: (released 1st November)
Digital track: (not in top 40)
Music video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0foqA87zgEk
Song lyrics: www.tinyurl.com/leonalewis-forgiveme
Artist website: www.leonalewis.co.uk
This week's final new entry comes from 23 year-old Leona
Lewis, the winner of the UK's TV talent show "The X Factor"
in 2006. Her first studio album, "Spirit", debuted at
number one when released here in Australia back in February
and it spawned the 5 week running number one hit single
"Bleeding Love" and the number 6 smash "Better In Time".
Next month, Leona's "Spirit" album will be re-released
as a "Deluxe Edition" with a bonus DVD of music videos
and the addition of the new song "Forgive Me". Aimed squarely
at the American market, "Forgive Me" is quite a departure
for Leona, transforming her from someone known mainly for her
powerful ballads to a pop/R&B artist thanks to Akon's
production of the single. "Forgive Me" debuts at number
50 this week.
