7. This week's top 50:
The top 2 position remain unchanged this week. Kings Of Leon are
at number one for a third week in a row with "*** On Fire", while
Pink's former 4 week chart-topping "So What" spends a third week
at number 2. Pink's latest album "Funhouse" has just debuted at
number one on the albums chart, knocking off AC/DC's "Black Ice"
from the top after just one week. Both albums have been ****pped
in phenomenal quantities to record stores due to their anticipated
high sales. "Funhouse" is already a certified double-platinum
seller while AC/DC claim triple-platinum status for "Black Ice".
One of this week's biggest movers is Beyonce's "If I Were A Boy"
which bullets from number 12 to 3 this week, running on digital
sales only until the CD single hits stores on 8th November.
Also enjoying good movement upwards within the top 10 is Britney
Spears as "Womanizer" now becomes her 10th top 5 hit single.
Lady GaGa's "Poker Face" bolts from number 18 to 9, joining her
former chart-topping "Just Dance" within the top 10. Meanwhile
leaving the top 10 this week is MGMT's "Electric Feel" and
Kid Rock's former number one, "All Summer Long".
Last week we saw a massive sales boost given to Australian
music thanks to the ARIA Awards and the publicity that gave
to artists who were nominated for or won awards. However,
as expected, much of that good work is undone this week as
the re-entry at number 17 of Gabriella Cilmi's "Sweet About Me"
tumbles to number 30, while her other re-entry, "Don't Wanna Go
To Bed Now", dives to number 50. A slightly different story
for the Presets who ended up with 3 singles in last week's top 50
thanks to the ARIA Awards. While the re-entry of "My People" slips
back from number 14 to 18, the re-entry of "This Boy's In Love"
moves up from number 50 to 48, and their current single, "Talk Like
That" reaches a new peak of number 19 this week.
There are only 3 new entries into this week's top 50, and with only
one of those cracking the top 20, it looks like another week devoid
of much new music. However, let's turn the clock back for a moment
to the days of just a few short years ago when the singles chart
consisted just of CD single sales. By looking at this week's CD
singles chart (i.e. the official chart minus digital sales), you
realise that it's a music chart frenzy at the moment as Christmas
draws closer. On this week's CD singles chart, there are a
whopping 12 new entries with two of those storming straight into
the top 5. The full list of new entries is included below:
4. WOMANIZER - Britney Spears
5. POKER FACE - Lady GaGa
10. KEEPS GETTIN' BETTER - Christina Aguilera
15. FALL FOR YOU - Secondhand Serenade
21. SUPERHUMAN - Chris Brown featuring Keri Hilson
29. RIGHT NOW (NA NA NA) - Akon
33. TROUBLE TROUBLE - The Potbelleez
34. MOMENT IN THE SUN - The Living End
36. GET SHAKY - The Ian Carey Project
38. LET IT ROCK - Kevin Rudolf featuring Lil Wayne
42. DON'T BELIEVE IN LOVE - Dido
46. FORGIVE ME - Leona Lewis
Bring back the old days of wild chart action with lots of new
music, you may cry out. However, a closer analysis of the list
above shows that only 5 of the above 12 CD singles have not yet
been seen in the top 50 official singles chart yet. In fact, each
of the above top 3 new entries has been charting on the official
chart for at least a month, and this week's sales of the song in an
additional format gives each of the singles an overall boost on the
official chart.
The above list also shows that for some songs, digital sales are
out of kilter with what's happening at record shops. While
the Britney Spears and Lady GaGa singles are selling roughly
at comparative levels on both charts, Christina Aguilera is
suffering, with a top 10 hit in record shops, but she's only
managed to go top 40 on the digital track chart. Then there's
those songs which aren't even given a CD single release but
go crazy on the digital track chart, excluding buyers from a
particular market segment.
So after the excitement of 12 new CD single hits this week, the
reality of the situation is that there really are only three new
songs within this week's official top 50.
16. SOBER - Pink
CD single: (not released yet)
Digital track: #14
Music video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqYH4HstSYg (live)
Song lyrics: www.tinyurl.com/pink-sober-lyrics
Artist website: www.pinkspage.com
She recently spent 4 weeks at number one with "So What" and
she's got the biggest selling album in Australia this week with
"Funhouse". Yes, things can't get much sweeter for 29 year-old
American singer and song-writer Alecia Moore, better known by
her professional name of Pink. Pink was recently in Australia
for the ARIA Awards and she also performed her new song "Sober"
on the Australian Idol series. Available as a digital track
only from her album at the moment, "Sober" debuts at number
16 this week. Things are hotting up for Pink's national
tour which begins in May next year. She has already sold
250,000 tickets and will perform 27 shows.
36. SUPERHUMAN - Chris Brown featuring Keri Hilson
CD single: #21
Digital track: #40
Music video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_KJDNlUJX8

Artist website: www.chrisbrownworld.com
www.kerihilsonmusic.com
19 year-old American R&B singer and song-writer Chris Brown
is enjoying continued success from his second studio album
titled "Exclusive". Currently a double-platinum seller, the
album gave him 4 hit singles including the top 5 ballad
"With You". In June, Chris followed in Rihanna's footsteps
and repackaged his highly successful album with 4 brand new
tracks and altered the re-released album's title to
"Exclusive: The Forever Edition". The new track "Forever" was
released as the album's next single, peaking at number 7 and
is still charting after 20 weeks in the chart. Now the album's
6th single which was newly added to the re-released album
makes its chart debut at number 36 this week. "Superhuman"
features guest vocals by 26 year-old Keri Hilson who up until
recently worked behind the scenes so to speak, writing music
for artists including Britney Spears, Ciara and Usher, and
providing backing vocals for those artists. Her vocal talents
were showcased late last year when she joined Timbaland on his
chart-topping hit "The Way I Are" and also his top 20 hit
"Scream" from earlier this year. Now this week she joins
Chris Brown on his latest release which is shaping up to be
a successful hit around the world, aided here in Australia by
Chris's current tour of our country together with Rihanna.
45. LET IT ROCK - Kevin Rudolf featuring Lil Wayne
CD single: #38
Digital track: (not in top 40)
Music video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMsWV8bgHbg

Kevin Rudolf is an American singer, song-writer and producer.
His debut single, "Let It Rock", features rapper Lil Wayne
and it has been a top 5 hit in the U.S. and Canada. This
week in Australia, it's our final new entry at number 45.
