I thought I'd pass this along. Here's an article from Variety:
NBC pilot granting small-town 'Wishes'
Grant to host Glassman skein
Reality TV continues to go warm and cuddly, with NBC greenlighting the
feel-good unscripted project "Three Wishes."
Singer Amy Grant will host the Andrew Glassman-produced skeinskein,
which essentially takes Oprah Winfrey's "Wildest Dreams" franchise
and brings it to primetime. Each episode features Grant and a team of
experts traveling to small towns or cities and making the dreams of
deserving folks come true.
Among the wishes expected to be granted in the pilot: saving a factory
on the brink of closure (thus keeping the jobs of townsfolk safe).
Other segs might focus on producers coming to the aid of a family
drowning in medical bills or letting viewers live out their wildest
s****ts fantasy.
Production on the special/backdoor pilot has already begun, with NBC
execs expected to consider the show for a fall series berth during
their pre-upfront pilot screenings in May.
"A lot of successful primetime reality has come out of daytime, and
this falls right into that ballpark," said NBC cable/cross-network
strategy prexyprexy Jeff Gaspin, who calls shows like "Wishes" and "The
Biggest Loser" an answer to the "backstabbing and nastiness" for which
the unscripted genre has been known.
Each episode is expected to tackle three different stories, all varying
in tone.
"There's an incredible diversity to the people we are going to meet
and the stories we are going to tell along the way," Glassman said,
adding that the show won't just be about Grant and producers playing
fairy godmother.
"Ultimately, this show will be about people helping people make their
dreams come true," he said.
Glassman and Jason Raff of NBC's "Average Joe""Average Joe" franchise
will exec produce for NBC U TV Studios.
