I wonder if Brian is still a Yankees fan.
I like the new album. I can't call it awesome, but it's pleasing,
well-executed, and very sincere. The fact that it's getting mostly
positive reviews is heartening, and if it keeps him busy and happy then
its good all around.
As for the others, Mike is handsome and Bruce is polite. Alan is to be
commended for putting up with being treated so ****y over the years.
I'm sure they're all great fathers (well, pretty sure) and I've never
heard anyone re****t that they could use a shower. Beyond that, I can't
get past the fact that if not for Brian's compositions we'd have never
heard of any of them. And now that Carl is gone, Brian's the only one
I'd pay to hear sing his songs.
About my only unfulfilled wish now is for Brian and the 'Mints to go on
the road with Sharon Marie Esparza, the Rutherford/Rovell sisters,
Ginger, etc., performing those non-Beach Boys 45s form the 60s. Carnie
and Wendy could supplement, and a few of Brian's Jan & Dean
contributions could round out the set.
But of course that's a fantasy and ain't gonna happen, for any number
of reasons.
I feel bad for the Wondermints, because they really are just about the
best band in the world and could sup****t any number of the great
musical legends. I wish we could hear them perform more of their own
material, live and from the studio.
So maybe there is one more unfulfilled wish: I wonder how come the
'Mints don't open for Brian. Even just a short set. They could sell a
bunch of CDs after the show, and of course they're there anyway, so it
would add nothing to the overhead. (Not that I can't think of any
myself, but) give me one good reason why this can't, won't, or
shouldn't happen?
Derek
