Three months later after the last post (sorry! I haven't posted in a long
time!) from this thread--or 43 years later after the song's release--this
song was my favorite BB song when I was seven years old. Methinks Brian
was
trying to be innovative with the breaks (something the Beatles hadn't
done,
and Brian was heavily influenced by the Beatles), where I found myself
counting "1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8" and kept dancing. I personally feel this song
was a stepping stone to higher production values in _Pet Sounds_ and then
to "Good Vibrations," "Heroes and Villains" and the songs in the aborted
original _Smile_ album. Just my 2¢ worth.
BTW, I wore out my 45 rpm copy of the single and had a tough time finding
a
replacement copy, as _The Best of The Beach Boys, Volume 3_ was cut out by
Capitol Records soon after it release. Years after its re-release on
_Spirit of America,_ "The Little Girl I Once Knew" is the only song from
the Beach Boys box set that I ripped for my Sony Walkman phone.
