The wife and I had the great fortune to see Brian Wilson at the
Hollywood
Bowl a couple of weeks ago. The concert was, for me, up there with
the
Grateful Dead at the Avalon Ballroom, The Stones at MGS, in other
words, a
just exactly perfect experience. The LA Philharmonic opened the show
with
the Star Spangled Banner, a Mozart piece, a Bach piece and a Greshwin
medley, all selected by Brian.
Brian and his band then joined the orchestra and they played 2 songs
from
his new Lucky Old Sun album followed by God Only Knows which Brian
dedicated
to the victims and families of the Chatsworth train crash. It was one
of the
most exquisitely beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. They
then took
a short break then came back without the orchestra and played a 90 min
set.
Brian has a 10 piece band of crack musicians. Almost all of then sing
and
their harmonies are glorious. There were fireworks over the Bowl as
they
closed out the show with Surfin' Safari and Fun, Fun, Fun.
I see that Brian is touring the east coast also Chicago, Mn, and
Nashville
in November. I would jump at the chance to see them again.
