I am still buzzing from a weekend listening to Bruce. On Friday, Bruce
taught a Master Class (free and open to the public) at the University
of Miami, where he played for a bit and then did a Q & A. He was witty
and funny, proudly displayed his ample talent, and shared anecdotes
about his experience in the music business. On Saturday, He gave a
solo piano concert. I have seen Bruce many times (with the Dead, with
his band, and solo) and with each show I attend, I would swear he gets
better and better. The crowd was an interesting mix of older folks who
I assume sup****t the university, parents with their kids, and those of
us who are just regular Bruce fans. The set list was fun and
adventurous and the setlist is as follows (there were also intros and
interludes of classical and improvisational pieces, but I don't have
the names of those):
Set I:
Country Doctor, Talk of the Town (Charlie, Woody & You), Darlin' Corey,
Night on the Town, Hooray for Tom (Hooray for Tony - tribute to Tony
LaRussa, a friend of Bruce's whose Cardinals just won the World
Series), End of the Innocence, Valley Road, Standing on the Moon, The
Way it Is.
Set II:
Sticks & Stones, Gonna Be Some Changes Made, Resting Place, Donald
Trump song, Dreaded Spoon, When in Rome, Spider Fingers, Play that
Funky Music White Boy, Fortunate Son>Comfortably Numb,
Encore: King of the Hill (Samson and Delilah tease), Mandolin
Rain>That Would Be Something
Can't wait for his next South Florida visit.
