I feel the same way about the "Love" soundtrack as I do about the then
three surviving Beatles fini****ng John's "Free As A Bird" and "Real
Love". It's nice, pleasing to the ear, and fun...but, once is enough.
I enjoy listening to "Love" because I understand why it was done,
specifically for that performance. It doesn't hurt or tarnish the
original songs. They are acceptable because both are a celebration of
The Beatles, their music, message, and im****tance. However, things
like "Love", and the completion of unfinished songs require
moderation...it's been done once, turned out OK, but doesn't need to
be done again.
In contrast, I find the use of Beatles music to sell things
unconnected to The Beatles, to be the ultimate perversion of their
music. I am quite discouraged to hear that we can expect more of that
in TV commercials in the future.
btw, it was George Martin's youngest daughter, Lucy, who at age nine
in 1977, asked her father if The Beatles were as great as the Bay City
Rollers.
