I'm not sure if he was the man who lent the houseboat, but I can tell
you that the daughter's name was "Bernadette Castro" who had a couple
of songs out in the early pre-Beatles 1960s. She also was the little
girl in the NYC area late 50s TV commercials for the Castro
Convertible sofa beds. She would be shown opening and closing the
sofa bed as the voiceover announcer said "So easy...even a child can
do it".
The commercials featured an original jingle trying to tie into the
then burgeoning space race. I wish that advertisers would write their
own jingles again, instead of trying to mine The Beatles' songbook.
Anyway, if the moderators will indulge me a few lines from a
commercial that some of us New York City area 1st Generation Beatles
fans might remember:
Who was the first to conquer space?
It's incontrovertible,
That the first to conquer living space,
Was the Castro Convertible.
Who conquers space with fine design?
Who saves you money all the time?
Who's tops in the convertible line?
Castro Convertible.
