Re: RIngo Starr - when did he become a full band member and what exactly did that mean?

I do not know the full story or if it is true or apocryphal but a singer in

my band was from somewhere mid or North England. She said her dad ran a 
dance hall or something like that. She said he loaned Ringo some money to 
get down to London or somwhere to audition with Lennon and McCartney etc.

I would love to know if this is the right story or not.
