I don't have my books with me at the office, but I wouldn't be surprised
to see a mention of this in Ryan and Kehew's "Recording The Beatles".
You might check out this source for a definitive answer. I know they
discuss varispeed use during the "White Album" sessions, can't recall
offhand how much earlier it was in use. I thought "Revolver" too, though
not "Rubber Soul", but perhaps something will turn up in their book.
Might be worth checking Babiuk's "Beatles Gear" or Geoff Emerick's
recent book too. Lewisohn's books, valuable as they are, aren't
technical enough and Everett's focus is more on musical/compositional
analysis.
