The International Beatles Freak Day team is
pleased to announce that May Pang has been selected as its July 2008
Artist
of the Month! May is an artist in more ways than one. Ms. Pang is a
designer
of a feng shui jewelry and furniture line, however, the I-BFD team
chose to
feature her this month based on the moving photographs in her new
book,
Instamatic Karma, released in March. The collection of photos =96 which
May
admits were previously hidden away in a shoebox in her closet =96
conveys a
personal side of John Lennon that fans can=92t see from photos taken by
the
press. Beatles fans will undoubtedly enjoy the insider=92s glimpse May
provides into Lennon=92s life, in addition to some of the historically
significant images such as the last known photograph of Lennon and
Paul
McCartney together. Upon hearing she was chosen as July=92s AOTM, May
replied,
=93Thank you for choosing me as July's =91Artist of the Month=92 on the I-
BFD
site. I am truly grateful that the fans have appreciated my Instamatic
Karma
photo book on John. As you know, I dedicated this book to =91everyone
who
loved John.=92=94
Although this is the first time the I-BFD team has chosen to feature
an
artist other than a musician or band, May spent many years working on
the
business side of the music industry. Most notably, she was John
Lennon's
production assistant & coordinator for his first #1 album, Walls and
Bridges, for which she was rewarded with an RIAA Gold Record Award.
May has
been credited with singing backup on Lennon's single "#9 Dream" in
addition
to whispering John's name in the recording (a video released later
shows
Yoko Ono calling for John, however it is with May's voice).
