ADAM HURT and BETH HARTNESS
House Concert and Workshops
Saturday, April 19, 2008
Adam Hurt and Beth Hartness will hold workshops and a house concert
at our home in the York, PA area on Saturday, April 19, 2008.
Adam will conduct a 4 1/2 hour banjo workshop from 11:00 A.M. to 4:15
P.M. with a 45 minute break for lunch (which is included in the cost
of the workshop). The workshop will focus on Old Time Kentucky Fiddle
Tunes for banjo, although Adam may wander into other areas as well.
This is not a beginners' workshop; participants should be comfortable
with clawhammer style and techniques, including drop-thumb. The cost
of the workshop is $70, or $60 to those who preregister with a $30
deposit by Friday, March 21, 2008. Space in the workshop is limited
to 12 and preregistration is strongly suggested.
Beth will conduct a one hour workshop from 4:30 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. on
backing up a fiddler on a guitar. There is no limit to the number of
participants and while beginners are welcome, some familiarity with
old time playing or a related style will help you get the most out of
the workshop. The workshop will be mostly demonstration, although
there may be some hands-on teaching if the skill level of the
participants allows. The cost of the workshop is $15. No
preregistration is required.
Adam and Beth will perform in concert from 8:00 P.M. around 10:15
P.M. The cost of the concert is $10. Most likely, there will be
jamming after the concert.
Workshop participants who also attend the concert are welcome to stay
for a dinner between the events. The dinner is limited to 20 people
and there is no cost. There are plenty of restaurants in the area as
well.
Adam is one of the premier clawhammer banjo players around today,
having won prizes in just about every banjo concert he's entered,
including Clifftop, Mt. Airy, Galax and the state champion****ps of
Alabama, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia. Adam also is gaining
respect for his fiddling as well and has won the state fiddling
champion****ps in Alabama, Maryland and Virginia. He has released
two CDs-- "Intrigue" and "Insight," the titles of which aptly describe
his playing. Adam also is a gifted teacher and has conducted workshops
at Augusta, Swannanoa and many other venues. You can learn more about
Adam as his websites at www.adamhurt.com and www.myspace.com/adamhurt
