WVBR'S BOUND FOR GLORY, 41st YEAR, SPRING 2008
Phil Shapiro, host of WVBR's Bound for Glory since its inception in
1967, announces the Spring schedule, continuing the 41st year of this
Central New York musical tradition.
WVBR's Bound for Glory, North America's longest running live folk
concert broadcast, broadcasts live from the Cafe at Anabel Taylor Hall
at Cornell on Sunday nights. Bound for Glory brings central New York
another series of free folk concerts, on WVBR-FM, 93.5 and 105.5, and
streaming on line at http://wvbr.com
. We promise some excellent
acoustic music, presented by long-time host Phil Shapiro.
The show runs Sunday nights from 8 to 11, with live sets at 8:30, 9:30,
and 10:30. All three sets are different. Come to as many sets as you
wish. Admission in the live audience at Anabel Taylor is free and is
open to everyone in the area. Kids are always welcome. Refreshments are

MAR. 30 ANNIE AND ROD CAPPS. It's a Bound for Glory debut for this
fine country-flavored contem****ary folk duo, whose new CD is getting
serious national recognition. Annie has a wonderful voice, and the
homemade songs are full of both delightful word play, and serious, to
the point clarity. Get to know Annie and Rod Capps.
APR. 6 MARIA DUNN. Maria Dunn comes to us from the Canadian
prairies, Edmonton, Alberta. She's got a grand voice, and writes songs
squarely in the folk tradition, songs that tell distinctively Canadian
stories. Maria Dunn is a social commentator who is able to write from
the perspective of folks who don't often get written about. Great stuff.
APR. 13 JAY SMAR. Jay Smar comes to us from the Pennsylvania coal
country. It's his second visit to Bound for Glory. He's got really
good stories to tell, and he sings both American traditional songs and
some of his own as well, with a lot of strong energy. Welcome him back.
APR. 20 COSY SHERIDAN AND T.R. RITCHIE. Cosy and T.R. come to us
from Moab, Utah. Cosy can be one of the funniest social commentators on
the folk scene, and the next minute she'll hit you with a song that'll
really make you think. T.R. writes sneakily clever songs, and plays a
fine ragtime- flavored guitar. They mesh perfectly together.
APR. 27 ADAM MILLER. First time around for Adam Miller on Bound for
Glory. This is a fellow who can really play the autoharp, a rare
talent. His songs are a collection of the best traditionally flavored
folk songs, some old, some not so old, but written in the tradition.
We'll get some magic going with Adam Miller.
MAY 4 JACK WILLIAMS. We have wanted to bring Jack Williams to Bound
for Glory for a really long time. He's a Southerner who seldom comes
through these parts. He's a bluesy singer and songwriter, with a
knockout guitar style, who gets major attention wherever he goes. What a
great ending to a superb Spring!
From May 11 through June 15, Bound for Glory will be Albums from the
Studios. Give Phil a call at 607-273-2121. Next Live Bound for Glory
folk concert broadcast? June 22. There are six live Bound for Glory
shows in the summer. We will welcome back, among others, THE SILLANPAA
FAMILY from Finland.
