Apple Suckling Tree (take 1) (2:38)
Bob Dylan | A Tree With Roots: The Genuine Basement Tape Remasters
(disc 4)
That's from Pete's site (2:38, that's my name)
24 Apple Sucking Tree - take 1 (2:71)
That's from the the Internet. (fdisc 4 as well)
That's a big difference!
Well, I suppose 2:71 is my birth month and year, but right now, I'm
more concerned about the difference.
Apple Suckling Tree is my favorite song from Basement Tapes (I don't
have a Tree with Roots).
You know why?
Because of the one line I could understand.
"Underneath that tree, there's just gonna be you and me"
and I wanted that to be me and Bob.
I wouldn't have said it was my favorite song on BT before I met him.
I mean, that would have been just a secret sappy wish, but I wouldn't
have said then, it's my FAVORITE song, because meeting Bob made me
more sentimental about it.
When I was a little girl, the way I used to picture getting my prince,
was to be sitting underneath a tree crying, and some man (and I'm just
a girl) walks up to me and says, "What's wrong?" and then I realize,
nothing's wrong, I just wanted him.
Like that's how I would find my prince.
