I made the plunge and got a set of German bagpipes. I also have a
Rauschpfeife, and a shawm, and all use "German fingering" or "open
fingering". It's similar to the baroque fingering of a recorder, but a
little more intuitive. All of the uniquely German instruments seem to
have this form of fingering, and I was wondering if anyone knows of
any manufacturers who make practice chanters with that type of
fingering, and in a key other than B-flat (G, C, D, and F are the
popular keys for Medieval instruments). I can get cheap Pakistani
practice chanters, but those manufacturers seem to only be capable of
highland practice chanters, and nothing else.
