My observation:
Some bow rehair jobs look nice on the outside- but how solid are the
hairs tied and glued inside the frog?
I would suggest that there are some luthiers who, unknowingly, skimp
on hair glue in the frog!
The result: the insufficient amount of glue at the tie, breaks apart
when a hair is pulled out. This breaks down the glue around adjacent
hairs and before you know it- hairs are falling out all over the
place!
I would like to suggest that before completing the frog assembly
after a rehair job- EXTRA GLUE be allowed to saturate into the hairs,
at least 1/2" from the end. This would secure the rest of the hairs in
place after a hair breaks off. This could be done before or even
after the hair is placed in the frog. Any small amount of dried glue
that may adhere to the inside of the frog can be easily scraped away
during the next rehair job.
I will not mention the person's name who rehaired my bow recently and
brought this problem to my attention!
