The death of Oliver Schroer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliver_Schroerhttp://www.oliverschroer.com/
last Thursday morning was a great loss to
the fiddling community both inside and outside Canada, but he has left
us with a priceless legacy. Two of his former students and current
collaborators were interviewed on CBC Radio this morning and spoke of
his last concert on 5th June in which he played a repeating melody line,
set it on continuous loop and left the stage to walk among the
audience as the music continued to play and the audience sang along with
it. The message was clear.
He left us too soon, but he left a unique inspiration that will live on
in thousands of students.
The interview will probably be at http://www.cbc.ca/nxnw/
in the next
few days.
