Amplifying a Hammered Dulcimer

by "Tomes" <ask.me@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Apr 9, 2008 at 09:57 PM

Hi folks,
I am having troubles with amplification of my hammered dulcimer and wish
to
get help from anyone out here that might lend advice and/or experience.

I have a piezo pickup stuck to the inside of the soundboard. As long as I

do not use too much volume, it is OK, but when I need volume I get a lot
of
feedback. Of course, moving the speaker further away helps, but often I
cannot do that. What to do? Will sealing the holes help and with what?
Other cures?

Also, I am looking for a bigger amp. What ought I look for in an amp for
this instrument? I do want it to be bright. I do not know a whole lot
about amp terminology so if you could explain as if you were talking to an

idiot it would likely help <grin>. I currently use a Crate 0 watt(?) amp
-
the one that is also battery powered. This is good around a campfire jam,

but on stage it gets dwarfed. How much power do I need to keep up with a
band?

Thanks folks,
Tomes
