Parental duty called last night.... Jess had got two tickets for this
gig in London but her friend had to cry off, so Dad got drafted in to go
to the rock concert with his daughter. I don't think I embarrassed her
too much, and I wasn't (quite) the oldest there.
Anyhow, Mr. Mraz is pretty good, both as a songwriter and a guitarist,
and was obviously having a whale of a time. And he does mainly happy,
up-beat songs, which is a nice change after having watched Nick Cave
last week.
He was playing a Taylor nylon-string cutaway, and got a *very* nice
sound out of it, with nary a hint of feedback even at high volume. It
really suited his style, and sort of makes me wish I hadn't got rid of
the Lowden. So if anyone is looking for a nylon-string that can stand
amplification and sounds good picked and strummed quite hard, look at
the Taylor.
But I had to tease my daughter... he played a baritone uke on two
numbers, and the trombone player from the brass section took a solo.
Ukuleles? Trombones? Rock gigs weren't like that in My Day (whenever
that was)
