All Songs Considered is a feature on NPR Radio that spotlights all
kinds of music. But do they cover ALL types of music or just the usual
most promoted mainstream safe music.
Their June 23 radio hour titled SUMMER MUSIC PREVIEW, talked about the
most anticipated summer recordings. I listened to each selection and
did a quick review. My opinion follows. What's yours?

MY REVIEW: Your group of summer reviewers are promoting music, not
listening to it. This needs a reality check Here's a tougher set of
ears:
Delta Spirit - hard to listen to
The Hold Steady - generic rock with every sound like everyone else.
Kimya Dawson - folk music without content
Missy Elliott - bad dance music
Beck - one of the most innovative of a bland bunch is just weird not
profound. And after his intro he goes into generic rock mode.
Black Kids - generic rock with the same guitar sound of every other
record. (Jimi Hendrix did more guitar sounds in one song then there
have been in the last decade of generic rock)
Randy Newman - original sound but not a good one - he's repeating
himself
Conor Oberst - sounds like he's saying something im****tant, but lyrics
have no discernible content. Folk without the protest.
Golden Animals - retro sixties sound without any of the talent for it.
Eliza Carthy - generic rock, that's not bad but not outstanding in any
way. Needs a better songwriter.
Hercules and Love Affair - rhythm track gives us some bad disco.
Do you really think this is the best music today? Is your panel trying
to sell us some mainstream acts? Surely they don't see these musicians
as standing out from all the others. There is no songwriting ability
here and the content of the lyrics is extremely poor. If you think
this is great music, I don't think you should be running a show like
this. Or at best I suggest that you have others contribute a saner
ear.
Really? This is good? Can you point to anything special anywhere?
