VERY OT: Oral surgery, sedation or just a local?

I need to have some periodontal work done and have been offered the options

of sedation (triazolam) or just a local.  For any of you out there who
have 
had to deal with it, what do you suggest?  I'd be surprised if any of our 
dentists want to "talk shop" in a guitar group, but I'd love to hear 
opinions if any of you'd care to.
