There's a Wingert in the house!!!

by Steve Hawkins <res0pf02@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jul 16, 2008 at 02:01 AM

I met Kathy at the Healdsburg Festival many years ago. She was playing
guitar and singing in Bob Alman's family room, I didn't even know she was
a Luthier. I did know she sure could sing and play guitar.

I later got a chance to play one of her Model E's with a German Spruce
top and Cocobolo back and sides. I knew it would be on my list of "gotta
haves" after I wrestled my credit card away from Lance.

I was at Kathy's house two years ago and placed the order. Last
Wednesday the guitar arrived and Thursday was spent getting acquainted.
On Friday I took her tent camping in Central Wa****ngton to the PNW
Gathering. Don't panic Kathy, the closest she got to a fire was a
Coleman Lantern. :-)

What I like about Kathy's guitars and the German/Coco Model E in
particular, is that her guitars have a warm, rich tone and are very
responsive to both a light and heavy right hand.

It's a new guitar, but the top is fairly old and it already has a very
strong bottom end that drives the cocobolo back against my chest. I can
easily pull harmonics out of her and even though there's great overtones,
the notes don't get lost in them.

She'll be making the rounds with me, so a lot of you will be seeing her.
In the meantime, I took a few, quick shots of her that you can see here.

I told Kathy I was working on a name for her, but I'm not sure she liked
the first one I came up with. "Koko LaBolo" has a classy ring to it
don't ya think? Well??? Hmmmmmm????? Okay, okay, I'll keep working on
it. :-)

Thanks Kathy!!!

Steve Hawkins
