I'm working on a book about my early life (Nothing better to do other
than work in call centres). It's not that I actually DID anything with
my early life, just that it went through interesting times - between
being born in 1956 England went through the cold war, the fallout from
the Suez crisis, Macmillan and 'you've never had it so good', Wislon's
'white heat', joining the common market, the 3 day week, the advent of
Thatcherism and the Falklands war all before I was 26. And that list
doesn't even include winning the World Cup!
Anyway, my birthday (21st October) has always been an interesting day
for me (it's Trafalgar Day so I get bragging rights over the French
for my birthday which is always a pleasure), but I thought I'd look it
up on wikipedia and see just how much stuff had gone down on that day.
One thing was missing was that on my birthday in 1956 the Russians
marched into Hungary with tank sup****t and shot about 2000 people in
order to suppress a democratic movement there - this doesn't show up
at all.
However, I was pleased to see that I share my birthday with a few
notable players, to wit:
Georg Solti
Dizzie Gillespie
Malcolm Arnold
Manfred Mann
Geoff Boycott (chiz chiz)
Steve Cropper (cheers cheers!)
Peter Mandelson (chiz chiz)
Julian Cope
Steve Lukather
John Carin
Paul Ince (who seems to be doing very well for himself despite his
unappealing dressing room habits)
And a whole pile of American Basketball and football players, none of
whom I have ever heard of...
So, what about you lot?
Just something to while away the early hours...:-)
Pete
