Last night it was my great pleasure to attend a concert in which Reid and
Fragomeni played an extended duo set. Jack Fragomeni is one of those guys
that not everyone may know really well but he is one of the finest
guitarists I've ever heard. He has a great set of chord subs that are
totally original and come from a very advanced concept that he has
developed. As he addresses standards, blues, ballads and bossas in his own
original way, the listener gets to hear familiar melodies cast in fresh
harmonic settings that are full of surprises and adventure.
These days he serves as a guitar instructor at several of the colleges
around the area but he also plays festivals in the summer. Check out Jack
Fragomeni when you get the chance.
The remainder of the concert featured Reid in a variety of settings
including a big band featuring his arrangements and a version of "Quiet
Now"
scored for five b*****. He finished with "Tricrotism" by Oscar Pettiford
which brought the house down. .....joe
