If the book gives drills without explaining how to use them, then it's
not a very useful book IMO. Maybe you missed an explanation earlier in
the book, or maybe it's just not the right book for you.

He's talking about the 3/7 shell in the left (usually) hand. If you are
playing F/B under a G7 chord, it becomes E/B when you change to
CM7--i.e. you "switch" from 7/3 to 3/7 so as to minimize your hand
movement.  It sounds like he explained it backwards in paragraph 1.

Does that clear it up?
