its because she has a amazing voice and can sing (most days, not always
standing by night...) pretty much anything and 
can sing it extreamly well.  I've been fortunate to hear her singing
standards (ok... not recently...) in a small venue 
and to be honest, she is a talent right up there with the recordings I've
heard of Ella and Billie.  The kind of voice 
which when in full swing, can stick the hairs up on the back of your neck
and put water in your eyes.

Whats happening lately is indeed sad - but there have been others before
who have had just as many wasted years as 
winehouse - and managed to survive to live and sing.
