I really loved hearing PHiSH play music live before getting to know it
well. That in-the-moment of discovery was particularly intense with
them.
I had tapes of 2 1990 shows that I played a bunch before going to my
first show in 1991, so I knew a chunk of their original material from
the early years. But as the new songs were rolled out for Rift and
Hoist and BB, etc.. I experienced them all live first. Even some of
the stuff from those 2 shows I had, I didn't really have it all
memorized because there was so much there to digest. I heard them
play Fluffhead several times without really knowing what it was. That
middle section was so long and winding, I would get lost in the
moment. Loved it that way.
