GEORGE HAMILTON IV (1937 Winston-Salem NC)
C&W singer first hit with A Rose & Baby Ruth 1956 later Abilene etc

VIKKI CARR (1941 El Paso Tx)
MOR pop femme she had first released version "He's A Rebel" 1962

PHIL UPCHURCH (1941 Chicago Il)
Jazz guitarist but made great R&B record You Can't Sit Down 1961

JULY 19 1946

Marilyn Monroe p***** her first screen test this day and is signed to
a contract by 20th Century Fox

JULY 19 1949

Harry Belafonte begins recording for Capitol Records on this day. The
first sessions include  "They Didn’t Believe Me" and "Close Your
Eyes". A short time later, Capitol pronounces Belafonte "unsaleable"
and  "not commercial enough" and terminates his contract

JULY 19 1951

The lavish MGM remake of Jerome Kern's "Show Boat" starring Kathryn
Grayson and Howard Keel premieres in New York City this day. Despite
the fortune that MGM has spent on the movie most folk agree that it
cannot compare with the 1936 movie original not least for the fact
that William Warfield's "Ol' Man River" can't hold a candle to the
magnificent Paul Robeson performance in the original----and also that
the (dubbed) Ava Gardner----whilst blowing away Helen Morgan in the
looks department----can't do the same thing vocally

JULY 19 1954. 

Down in Memphis Sun Records officially release a new single Sun #209
this day.It is the first record by the unknown Elvis Presley "That's
All Right"/"Blue Moon Of Kentucky"

JULY 19 1955 

At Sun Studios in Memphis blues singer Eddie Snow records "Ain't That
Right" / "Bring Your Love Back Home To Me'' for Sam Phillips this day

JULY 19 1958

The manager of The Drifters, George Treadwell  officially sacks the
entire group this day---making the virtually unknown Ben E King and
The Five Crowns already hired as replacements into The Drifters Mk II

Brian Hyland sings "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini"
on "American Bandstand"

JULY 19 1961

In Cincinatti Hank Ballard & The Midnighters record "Nothing But Good"
and "Do You Remember"

Johnny Cash records at Columbia Studios in Hollywood. "Tennessee Flat
Top Box" is selected as the new single and "I'm Free From the Chain
Gang Now" ends up on the LP "The Sound Of Johnny Cash". Early versions
of "Delia's Gone" and "Sing It Pretty Sue" first appear on Bear Family
as does the track "So Do I". Also recorded is an unissued new
version of "I Walk the Line"

The Edsels sing "Rama Lama Ding Dong" on  "American Bandstand". Al
Martino also guests on the show. 

JULY 19 1962

Duane Eddy hosts "American Bandstand" for the day whilst Dick Clark is
on vacation (he also plays "The Ballad Of Paladin")

JULY 19 1966

In Las Vegas Frank Sinatra marries Mia Farrow this day

JULY 19 1981

"Roy Orbison Day" is declared in Odessa, Texas
 
JULY 19 2002

"Solomon Burke Day" is announced in his hometown Philadelphia
